Vancouver Methodist Foundation Scholarships & FUMC Scholarships

The Vancouver Methodist Foundation and Vancouver First United Methodist Church provide scholarships for high school graduates, post high
school students, nursing students, students pursuing a career in the medical profession, and for seminary education. Applications are due by April 1st or April 30th – check details below.

FUMC High School Scholarship: Vancouver FUMC offers these scholarships for graduating high school seniors planning to study at any accredited 2- or 4- year college, university, vocational, or technical school. Applications are open to current Vancouver First United Methodist Church members and children, grandchildren, and children under guardianship of members.

Clark County High School Scholarship: The Foundation offers these scholarships for Clark County high school seniors pursuing further education at any accredited 2- or 4-year college, university, vocational, or technical school. No church affiliation is required. The application form is available at all of the high school Counseling Centers and the link below.

Continuing Student Scholarship: The Foundation offers these scholarships for current college/continuing education students who are members of First United Methodist Church in Vancouver, WA (or children of a member). One applicant will be chosen to receive the Charles Anderson Scholarship and it will be distributed by the Community Foundation of Southwest Washington. Other applicants will be considered for Continuing Student Scholarships that are funded by the Vancouver Methodist Foundation.

Nursing and medical scholarships are offered for students in Clark College’s nursing program and WSU Vancouver medical programs. Clark College nursing students need to complete the General Scholarship Application to be considered https://clarkcollegefoundation.org/scholarships/. WSU medical students should contact their financial aid office regarding scholarship opportunities https://studentaffairs.vancouver.wsu.edu/financial-aid.

Seminary scholarships are offered for students pursuing a seminary education. Contact Cindy Kraft at vanmethodistfoundation@gmail.com for information.

Trustees Scholarships

The Board of Trustees typically accepts applications for the following scholarships every April (stay tuned for 2023):

  • The Trustees Scholarship is awarded to graduating high school seniors for full time study at any accredited 2 or 4 year post-secondary institution. The amount awarded varies depending on the number of applicants and funding availability, but has ranged from $1,250 to $1,500.
  • The Stanley and Ruth Grimes Scholarship of $5,000  is awarded annually to one graduating high school senior and is not renewable. Applicants should demonstrate some financial need.

Applications are open to Vancouver First United Methodist Church members and children, adopted children, grandchildren, and children under guardianship of members. Students who are not members or related to members but have a documented relationship to the church (regular participation in youth activities, for example) may also be considered for a Trustees Scholarship.

Send completed applications, with scanned transcript and one page activity description, to Valerie Estep at office@vanfumc.org.  Or, mail them to the church office.  Applications are due by April 1st!
