Little Acorn Preschool & Kindergarten

Come Grow With Us

Little Acorn Preschool has been a ministry and outreach service to our community and members of the Vancouver First United Methodist Church since 1981. Since its inception, the program and curriculum have been inclusive in approach, leaving the teaching of specific religious practices or beliefs to each family. VanFUMC continues to respect this approach today, while continuing its partnership and commitment to serve the needs of the community through Little Acorn Preschool.

Little Acorn Preschool is a part-time, play based and child-centered program. We appreciate the opportunity to serve families during their children’s early years and accept the responsibility of offering them the finest in early childhood education. All children are welcome, regardless of economic background, race, religion, or ethnic origin.

We present an individualized, self-paced program operated within the context of freedom of choice, active learning, respect for others, relevance, enthusiasm, and self direction.

We support each child’s individuality and promote independence. We believe that when children are given choices (should I paint, play blocks, or dress up?) they are able to develop the skills and abilities necessary for effective learning, autonomy and positive self-esteem.

Our program has been honored to receive the Columbian’s Best of Clark County, Best Preschool award in 2015, 2019 and 2020, as well as being members of the Better Business Bureau since 2019.  We love sharing “The Little Acorn Way” with our families and community.

Serving Northwest Communities for more than a Century.

Lutheran Community Services Northwest partners with individuals, families and communities for health, justice and hope.

The origin of our Lutheran Community Services Northwest predates the Great Depression to 1921 with the founding of the Lutheran Compass Mission in Tacoma. The mission served “down-and-out” individuals and families in the community. In 1926, caring Lutherans in Portland organized a similar outreach effort known as the Lutheran Welfare Society. As human suffering escalated during the 1930s, Northwest Lutherans increased their efforts to provide clothing, bedding, food and shelter to the homeless.

In the 1940s, we resettled refugees from Eastern Europe and started offering adoption services. Our Spokane office opened in 1956 and the Tri-Cities office opened in 1964 as our work focused on mental health and marriage and family counseling. In the 1970s and 80s, we expanded services for refugees and unaccompanied minors, senior services grew in Tacoma, and the Rape Crisis Center opened in Spokane.

In 2001, Lutheran Social Services of Washington and Idaho joined with Lutheran Family Service of Oregon and SW Washington to form Lutheran Community Services Northwest.

Just recently, we moved a portion of our offices into the Vancouver First United Methodist Church.
