We know there may be questions for those visiting VanFUMC for the first time. But we've got you covered! We've answered some of the most common questions below:
- "It's like a loving family - we can agree, we can disagree. We can laugh and we cry together. We share our gifts and resources, both tangible and spiritual, with each other and our neighbors. We respect and celebrate our individual perspectives and differences. We worship and rejoice together as a family of God's beloved children."
~ Larry I.
- "For me, FUMC is a place for community, belonging and friendship across a multigenerational congregation. The variety of music and performers draws me to worship and the church in general. It is also a place that is accepting and inviting of everyone."
~ Bill N.
- "I find fellowship and purpose through the mission outreach activities of our church. My involvement allows me to explore my faith and continue to learn. I enjoy the challenge."
~ Anita J.
What about my kids?
Our Nursery and Young Disciples leaders are eager to engage with your littles and young ones through bible lessons, videos, and play. Children can earn "Bible Bucks" through scripture memorization, fun challenges, and being Humble Servants. Those "Bible Bucks" can later be redeemed for special prizes.
For your child's safety, we require a parent/guardian to sign your child in and out of class. If you have additional questions, please feel free to reach out to our Young Disciples Ministry Director, Teuila Kaumatule-Muli at Childrensministry@vanfumc.
Great question! Our building is full of charm, but can be a little tricky to navigate if you're new here.
Our main building doors are situated on the south side of the building off of 32rd street, nearest to VSAA school, and there is a small parking lot on that side of the building.
We have a small parking lot on the North side of the building, right off of 33rd and Main streets. This one-way lot has the entrance closest to Main Street. There is a lobby door tucked into the corner of the building (pictured below); however, this entrance does have stairs and no ADA access.
We also offer a large parking lot on the east side of the building off of 33rd, along with a wheelchair ramp for accessibility. This is where the office is located and is the only point of entry Monday through Friday, as we are a Closed Campus.
During the week, we are a closed campus and all doors remain locked. Entry for church business is at the Office Doors located off of 33rd street between the north and east parking lots, and we ask that you park in the large east lot.
Our ushers open the three doors nearest these parking areas each Sunday, until about 10:15am, at which point they will lock all doors except the south lobby entrance, for safety.
If you have additional questions, please reach out to us at the office. We're happy to help.
There is no specific dress code at a United Methodist Church (UMC), so there's no need to worry about being "overdressed" or "underdressed." You can wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable. You will see a range of attire, from jeans and T-shirts to slacks, dress shirts and ties, and dresses. We simply ask that you don't dress in clothing that will distract others from their worship experience.
We have so many ways for you to connect with VanFUMC!
