Maundy Thursday ~ Seder Supper with Communion
March 29 @ 6:00pm ~ Jason Lee Hall
In Hebrew, the word Seder means order. A Seder Meal is a Jewish ceremonial meal that
follows a particular order and commemorates the Hebrew Exodus from Egypt. It includes special readings, singing, and eating symbolic foods. Many scholars believe that the Passover meal that Jesus shared with his Disciples prior to his crucifixion was a Seder Meal. A Seder Meal is a family meal that is shared in community so all ages are encouraged to participate. Our Seder Meal will also include a potluck as the church will provide the meat, such as fried chicken or meatloaf and conclude with sharing Holy Communion. Please bring your favorite dish to share.

Dozens of members are coming together for food and fellowship on Wednesday night’s this Lenten season as Pastor Jon is exploring “The Way,” a new series by the Rev. Adam Hamilton discussing the people and places of impact from Jesus’ time. Homemade entrees are shared as bread is broken among friends and families at tables in Jason Lee Hall starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday nights through March 24th.
Daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 11th. Don’t forget to move your clocks forward one hour before going to bed on Saturday, March 10th.
On March 8th, VanFUMC will host a Choir Festival in the Sanctuary. This Encore Special Presentation is free and open to the public. It will feature two top Washington choirs, Western Washington University Advanced Women’s Chorale and Rogers High School Concert Choir from Puyallup. These choirs have been selected to perform in the Northwest Regional ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) convention being held in Portland. This is an ideal opportunity to hear these top notch choirs if you cannot make it to their Portland performances.
VanFUMC’s adult choir in residence, the Vancouver Chamber Singers, will perform, featuring our church music director, Thomas Rheingans, at the piano.
This will be a great and rare opportunity to hear top choral groups performing in the same concert in our sanctuary. Please invite your friends and neighbors to this very special event!
Please join us and share the link to the Internet web cast of our Sunday services, or even tune in if you can’t make it to the sanctuary. Thanks to our dedicated media team, live video and sound is available on UStream – CLICK HERE.
You can tune in live Sundays at 10 a.m. and you can follow our USTREAM page and get an alert when we go live. You can watch past services, going back to Sunday, March 12th. “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” – 2 Corinthians 9:7
Seven days of intense mission greeted the high school youth of VanFUMC in and around Guatemala City in Latin America this past summer. From food delivery to community center building, the youth found the calling in mission and according to Youth Director Justin Nutting, “it was transformative!”
Thousands of dollars came in for the different missions and partnerships of Vancouver First United Methodist Church during the annual MAD (Make A Difference) Christmas bazaar Sunday, Nov. 26th.
Goats and chickens were purchased for Heifer International, children were sponsored at the Jamaa Letu booth, word has spread about peacemaking in the Philippines, about the work Story Space and Project Transformation are doing in the community, and children’s names were chosen for Christmas gifts.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
